Heralded as one of the 10 Most Anticipated Museums in the world by Smithsonian Magazine and one of the 10Best New Museums by USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, the Harriet Tubman Museum shares the inspiring story of an American hero, the rich history of abolitionist activism in New Jersey, and the enduring legacy of the African American community in Cape May County. Join us for our long-awaited and much anticipated Grand Opening to celebrate the inaugural season of the Harriet Tubman Museum!

  • Remarks from organizers of the Harriet Tubman Museum and leaders of the community

  • Reflections on the meaning and history of Juneteenth

  • Ceremonial march and presentation from the 22nd regiment United States Colored Troops re-enactors to descendants of Civil War veterans, including Ms. Emily Dempsey, Founder of the Center for Community Arts in Cape May and founding supporter on the History Committee of the Harriet Tubman Museum

  • Music and dance by Pan African Rhythm Cooperative, local drummers, performing artists and musicians who teach cultural connections with African rhythm, drums and dance

  • Recognition of the Davis Family, honoring Ms. Carolyn Davis and Reverend Robert O. Davis, the last family to live in the Howell House as a parsonage until the mid-1980s -- Reverend Davis was pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church for 47 years and Mrs. Davis loaned parts of his extensive collection to the Harriet Tubman Museum for a number of its exhibits

  • Songs & celebration of the long-anticipated opening of the official Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey!

So that we can accommodate as many of our supporters as possible, we have limited group size to four (4) entries per party. Please do not reserve more than four (4) eTickets for the event. Accommodations for larger parties may be requested by writing to admin@harriettubmanmuseum.org.

In accordance with CDC and New Jersey State guidelines, there are no longer numerical limits for outdoor gatherings, and staff and audience members are no longer required to wear face coverings. New Jersey State encourages unvaccinated individuals to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask, social distancing, and staying home if you are sick. Gates open at 10:30am, event begins at 11am. All donations help sustain the Museum.
